In June 2005 Pakistani Govt placed Mukhtaran Mai on Exit Control List thereby preventing her to fly out of Pakistan. ANAA had invited her to USA to honour the brave women who fought against all odds to get justice for her and therby became an icon of hope for women in Pakistan. See following links about her visit in June 2005.

June 2002

Rapists freed and Mukhtaran under House arrest. Mukhtaran put on Exit control list(ECL). Muktaran is outraged.

The Multan bench of the Lahore High Court acquitted five of the six convicts, while deciding appeals against the judgement of the anti-terrorism court. The death sentence of the sixth convict was changed into life term.

Two years after the gang rape, two men of the Matsoi tribe were sentenced to imprisonment for sodomising Shakur, Mukhtaran's 12 yr old brother.

The uproar across Pakistan came with an intensity that made her case impossible for officials to overlook. Her case was taken up by the non-governmental Human Rights Commission of Pakistan and the perpetrators were tried and convicted in anti-terrorism courts. Death sentences were handed down to six found guilty by anti-terrorism court.

Pakistani village Meerwala - A young boy is sodomized by men from Mastoi tribe. When the boy thretened to report the incident, the Mastoi men called the tribal council (jirga) and accused the boy of raping a Mastoi girl. At the conclusion of the meeting, the boy's family was told that the Mastois would forgive the boy if his sister, Mukhtaran Mai, came before the council to plead for clemency on her brother's behalf. When the sister was brought to the council, however, four of the Mastoi men took her to a nearby house and gang-raped her—as per the council's decree.
